Student Growth and Knowledge
Over the school year I was able to assess student growth through a variety of methods and acitivites. I will talk about some of these methods in my NCSS and INSTAC sections. However, there were two main assignments I did this year in which I was able to assess student growth and knowledge. In the Fall I interviewed two high school students back home for a couple of hours to assess their prior knowledge. I then completed a prior knowledge interview paper in which I discussed my findings from the interview. The link to the paper is below.
In the Spring I completed a SMART Goal assignment in which I had to develop three similar writing assignments to assess student growth over a six week period. I decided to give my highest level class three one to two paragraph persuvaive essay assignments. On the first two essays student scores were about the same; however, on the third essay most student scores dramtically improved. I also did a micro analysis on two students in that class. One of those students made progress, while another student struggled to improve. At the end I met only one of my three SMART Goals; however, according to the VDOE I still had an exemplary rating. This assignment was benefitical to students in helping them become better writers. I also learned it takes a full year to implement a SMART Goal effectively, and I still have room for in improvement in desigining SMART Goals. I go into more detail on my SMART Goal in my paper and powerpoint presentation below.
