     About Me

I am originally from Dinwiddie County in Southside Virginia, about an hour south of Richmond. I grew up in the rural farming community of Old Hickory. I have always had an interest in history due in to part to living near famous historical sites like Jamestown, Yorktown, and Petersburg. I have also been interested in government and geography. Over time my interest in social studies has developed into an interest for sharing this vital knowledge with students. I graduated from Dinwiddie County High School in 2008 and then graduated with my Associates Degree from Richard Bland College in Petersburg, VA in 2010. In 2010 I started another chapter in my life when I moved to Blacksburg to begin my four years at Virginia Tech. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in History and Political Science Minor from Virginia Tech in May 2012. I began working on my Master’s Degree in Fall 2012 and am ready to graduate in May 2014 with a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction. While working on my Master’s Degree I was also able to obtain eighteen hours of graduate level Political Science courses at Virginia Tech for teaching Dual Enrollment government.

I have a lot of other interests outside of school. I enjoy watching and playing sports like basketball, baseball, football, or volleyball with friends. I also enjoy the outdoors; as I like to go hiking, canoeing, and camping. I have been on several backpacking trips on the Appalachian Trail, including multiple trips to Mt. Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia.

Back home I have also been involved in my community. Throughout my whole life I have been active in my Methodist Church back home and at Virginia Tech. I have served as MYF President, Administrative Council Member, and Pastor-Parish Relations Committee member at my home church. I have been a volunteer firefighter back home since 2008, and I am also an Eagle Scout. My parents, family, and friends have always been supportive of me while I have been pursing my Master’s Degree. I am grateful for them supporting and pushing me to graduate with my Masters.
